Position Overview Financial Controller will play a key role in managing the financial operations of the company, ensuring the accurate reporting, forecasting, and budgeting of the company’s financial performance. This role involves overseeing accounting processes, internal controls, financial reporting, and compliance with relevant financial regulations in the shipping industry. Key Responsibilities: Fleet-Related Financial Management Analyze financial performance related to the oil tanker fleet, including vessel profitability, chartering arrangements, operating costs, and capital expenditures for new vessels or fleet upgrades. Assist with the evaluation and negotiation of charter agreements, ensuring alignment with the company’s financial goals. Cost Management Implement effective cost control measures for fuel, maintenance, dry-docking, insurance, and other operational expenses. Conduct regular reviews of the cost structure to identify opportunities for operational efficiency and profitability. Financial Reporting & Analysis Oversee the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, ensuring compliance with local and international accounting standards (e.g., IFRS, GAAP). Analyse financial performance, including P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow statements, to provide actionable insights and recommendations to senior management. Prepare detailed variance analysis for revenue, costs, and expenditures in relation to budgeted and forecasted performance. Budgeting & Forecasting Lead the annual budgeting process, collaborating with departmental heads to set realistic and achievable financial targets. Develop and maintain financial forecasts, ensuring that projected cash flows align with the operational needs of the oil tanker fleet. Monitor and manage operational budgets, ensuring effective cost control, especially in areas related to vessel operations, maintenance, and crew costs. Internal Controls & Risk Management Develop, implement, and maintain robust internal controls and financial systems to mitigate financial risk. Work with the risk management team to assess financial risks associated with operations, including fluctuating fuel prices, insurance, and exchange rate volatility. Requirements: Education & Certifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred). Professional certifications such as CPA, ACCA, CMA, or equivalent are highly desirable. Experience Work experience as Manager with a Big 4 firm (PWC, KPMG, etc.) is strongly desired. Minimum 5–7 years of financial management experience, preferably within the shipping, logistics, or oil & gas industries. Proven track record of managing budgets, financial forecasting, and cost control in a complex operational environment. Experience in managing internal audits, tax filings, and regulatory compliance. Skills & Competencies Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting standards (IFRS, GAAP). Proficiency in financial software and ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics). Advanced Excel skills and the ability to manipulate large sets of financial data. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail. Ability to communicate financial information effectively to non-financial stakeholders.
